The Europa League is a competition that emerged from the UEFA Cup in 2009. The competition is an international football competition that is under the Champions League and therefore includes many smaller teams. After a qualifying round, a group phase will be played, followed by several rounds of knockout rounds. The winner of the Europa League may participate in the Champions League the following year. Criticizing the competition is that the funds to be generated for the clubs are well below the Champions League funds. Therefore, the trophy is often considered less attractive.
